Social Justice

Tifereth Israel believes that social action and social justice are at the heart of what it means to live Jewishly in today’s world.  Our projects focus on tzedek (justice), g’mulit chasim (acts of loving kindness), and tikkun olam (repairing the world).

Throughout the year, the social action committee hosts various volunteer opportunities, including:

  • Manna Café, serving hot meals to our neighbors in need in partnership with Saint Philip Church
  • High Holiday toiletries drive, supporting a neighborhood foodbank
  • Kosher for Passover food drive benefiting social service agency Jewish Family Services
  • Hosting holiday brunch for Huckleberry House, a shelter for homeless teens
  • Red Cross blood drives
  • Habitat for Humanity builds
  • Neighborhood environmental clean-up and preservation projects

Tifereth Israel is an active partner in the B.R.E.A.D. Organization. An interfaith coalition of more than 40 houses of worship in Columbus, B.R.E.A.D. advocates for local social justice issues and has a strong record of working with local governments and agencies to implement policies that improve the lives of people throughout our community.
